  • Hinoki Cypress (Chamaecyparis obtuse) is native to Japan, a slow growing tree with dark red-brown peeling bark and deep green needles, and it grows up to 35m tall, producing a beautiful golden coloured wood with a slightly smoky citrusy smell. Since the 8th Century it has been used to make Buddha statues and to build shrines. Historically, during the Edo period (1603 - 1867), the Hinoki was one of Five Sacred Trees of Kiso that were only allowed to be cut down to build houses and temples for the most powerful families.

A Hinoki Sekka bonsai is a unique, dense dwarf Hinoki Cypress that releases phytoncides, which are natural compounds that provide health benefits to humans, such as stress reduction, immune system boost, mood improvement, and air purification.
